Visiting the Emperor Georgiou Tearoom in Portland, Oregon.

What, uh...what kind of food do they serve here?

kaziusklasterzoroaster

Small snacks that you can’t afford

this is the most Portland thing I’ve ever seen

It’s a really neat vegetarian tearoom that treats its (mostly queer) staff really well and pays them a decent wage, so yeah, it’s a little pricy, but definitely worth it! Sure beats going to Starbucks.

So ... there's a new Indiana Jones movie. I guess I'm kind of obligated to watch that, right? I saw the last one at the cinema, with a dozen drunk archaeologists.

I have now seen the thing, and the it was not bad. Much more like what I want from an Indiana Jones movie than #4 was. I can even say I liked it more than Temple of Doom. 8/10 would watch again.

Is the story in any way accurate regarding the known history of the Antikythera Mechanism?

No, not even a little bit. Although the mechanism was retrieved from a Roman shipwreck in 1901, and dates to the 2nd or 1st century BCE, it basically looked like nothing more than a lump of corroded metal and wood fragments. It lay in overlooked obscurity for half a century, in storage at the National Museum of Archaeology in Athens. Its complexity and possible purpose were not investigated until the 1950s-1970s, with the help of advances in X-ray technology. An accurate reconstruction of the device was not attempted until the 2000s. Any connection with the Ancient Greek mathematician Archimedes is purely speculative.

The 2007 proposed reconstruction.

Is the movie a rollicking and delightful adventure story, in the spirit of the original trilogy, full of callbacks, fan service, and Nazi-punching, bringing the iconic series to a satisfying conclusion?

HELL YES! Do yourself a favor and go see it!
